About IRDC

Established in 1996, working towards the sustainable development of rural and urban
communities of Nepal.

Our History & Focus

IRDC also focuses on democracy, governance, human/dalit rights, strengthening peace process, disaster management, sustainable livelihood and environmental conservation Programmes. IRDC has been initiated by a group of well qualified and experienced professionals who have several years’ experiences in the area of natural resources management and integrated community development sectors.

It intends to carry out socio-economic and environmental activities, research and advocacy campaigns which identify the constraints and fulfill peoples’ desires and need. To work in different spheres of development concerns, IRDC’s team members, volunteers, and specialists are engaged in developing sector-wise development plan and strategies to ease the participatory process.

Principal Objectives

Build the capacity of local people through integrated programmes like education, sustainable livelihood, disaster management, water and sanitation, public health, agriculture, livestock and off-farm activities, wetland management, renewable energy technologies (RETs). Climate change, environment conservation activities for their sustainable livelihood.

Empowering youth entrepreneurship through capacity building activities & networking.

Ensure involvement of the woman, children, youth, indigenous, vulnerable, dalit and excluded in the decision-making process in every development endeavour.

Undertake studies and action research programmes which would contribute in mobilizing and using optimum level of local resources.

Run soil conservation and watershed management programme and safeguard natural recourses (Land reform, community forest and irrigation).

Support for conflict affected communities for peace marking, peace keeping and peace building through advocacy and livelihood opportunities.

Build the capacity of local youth people to the dalit, indigenous, community, vulnerable community.

Our Strategies

Identify and prioritize the needs of the communities through different participatory tools and techniques like PRA, Participatory Learning and Action (PLA) and Participatory Vulnerability Analysis (PVA).

Organize the target beneficiaries into groups, make alliance and build their capacities for mobilising both natural and human resources and maximising the development endeavours.

Make the programmes socially inclusive through advocacy and campaigns with equality of opportunity.

Involve the community in all stages of project cycle.

Maintain political neutrality through adopting the principle 'Do No Harm'.

Disseminate the findings, knowledge and experiences gained during the implementation of development programmes through media mobilization.

Learn from the experiences gained by successful programmes and build future programmes on the basis of lesson learnt.
