About IRDC

Empowering Communities Since 1996

Integrated Rural Development Centre (IRDC) aims to bring about sustainable development of the rural and urban communities of Nepal. Initiated by a group of well-qualified and experienced professionals, we focus on democracy, governance, human/dalit rights, peace processes, disaster management, sustainable livelihood, and environmental conservation.

Principal Objectives

  • Build capacity through education, sustainable livelihood, disaster management, water/sanitation, agriculture, wetland management, and RETs.
  • Empowering youth entrepreneurship through capacity building activities & networking.
  • Ensure involvement of women, children, youth, indigenous, vulnerable, and excluded groups in decision-making.
  • Advocate and assist in bringing gender-sensitive policies.
  • Undertake studies and action research for optimum local resource mobilization.
  • Run soil conservation and safeguard natural resources (Land reform, forests, irrigation).
  • Support conflict-affected communities for peace making, keeping, and building.

Our Strategies

  • Identify priorities via PRA, Participatory Learning & Action (PLA), and Vulnerability Analysis (PVA).
  • Organize target beneficiaries into groups, make alliances, and build capacities.
  • Make programmes socially inclusive through advocacy and campaigns.

  • Maintain political neutrality through adopting the principle ‘Do No Harm’.
  • Disseminate findings and experiences gained through media mobilization.

When was IRDC established and what is its main focus?

Integrated Rural Development Centre (IRDC) was established in 1996. We aim to bring about sustainable development of the rural and urban communities of Nepal through envisioning, implementing and supporting community initiatives in sectors like democracy, human rights, environmental conservation, and RETs.

Our core areas include democracy, governance, human/dalit rights, strengthening peace process, disaster management, sustainable livelihood, environmental conservation, renewable energy, and water/sanitation programs.
